Guided visits to the Camilo House-Museum

The house where Camilo Castelo Branco lived with Ana Plácido and her children, from the winter of 1863 until his death in 1890, has an interior which is very similar to the one of the building that was inhabited by the novelist; and it faithfully reproduces the Camillian family environment and the 19th century daily life in São Miguel de Seide.

On the 2nd and 3rd floors are the bedrooms of Camilo, Ana and their children: Manuel, Jorge and Nuno; The workrooms of both the writer and his wife; the kitchen; the dining room and the living room. In these rooms there are various Camillian cultural assets on display. Among others, the couple's work desk stands out; drawings of Jorge, the beloved "demented son"; the living room clock described in the work Eusébio Macário; part of Camilo's private library; writing tools; portraits of nuclear family members and friends; and the rocking chair where the novelist ended his life.

The Museum's gallery, on the ground floor, features the exhibition "Camillo: Readers, Loves and Humours", conceived within the scope of the "Camillo – Rotas do Escritor" ("Camillo – Writer's Routes") project, for which the House of Camilo also serves as headquarters of an initiative of great cultural and tourist scope. From the gallery, you can access the caretakers' quarters.
