Confraternity of the Bom Jesus do Monte
Management of the sacred mountain of Bom Jesus do Monte, classified as a World Heritage Site.
In Bom Jesus, art harmonizes itself with the green surroundings; the visitors feel captivated by the articulation between the "expression of nature" and the "human intervention" over the centuries.
The novelist maintained a long and deep experiential and fictional relationship with this place. He was here for the first time when he was 11 years old: he was coming from Lisbon towards Vila Real, when he no longer had a mother and had just lost his father. It is believed that Ana Plácido gave in to the novelist's loving insistence in the corners of these forests. And, throughout his life, especially in phases of greater anguish or weak health, the invigorating air, the solitude of the woods and the coexistence with close friends were physical and moral comforts that he experienced here and could not do without.
