Created on the 25th of June of 1997, the CPF is located in the building of the former prison and former court of Porto (Tribunal da Relação do Porto).
Due to clandestine love affairs, Camilo was imprisoned in the cells of this prison: for running away with Patrícia de Barros (1846) and for adultery with Ana Plácido (1860-1861). During his last detention, he met, among several other prisoners, José do Telhado, a famous robber. He received visits from illustrious personalities, with special highlight to the visits he received by the King of Portugal, D. Pedro V (Nov. 1860 and Sept. 1861). Of the books written in prison, we highlight Memórias do Cárcere (1862) and Amor de Perdição (1862), the masterpiece of Portuguese romanticism.
